Martene Grimson came to prominence after being awarded second prize in the Kathleen Ferrier Competition. Originally from Sydney Australia, she studied at Sydney Conservatorium before moving to London to study at the Royal College of Music’s Benjamin Britten Opera School and then at the National Opera Studio.

She was the recipient of many awards including the Maggie Teyte and Mirriam Licette Award, Australian Music Foundation Award, Tait Memorial Trust award, Wingate Scholarship, Countess of Munster Award and Madeline Finden Award. She has been a Samling Scholar and took part in L’Acadamie in the Aix en Provence Festival and was a finalist in Placido Domingo’s Operalia – The World Opera Competition.

Martene has worked with Orchestras including Bayerischer Rundfunk, Orchester Wiener Akademie, Concerto Köln, Scottish Chamber Orchestra, Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, The London Mozart Players and the BBC Concert Orchestra. She has sung under conductors such as Thierry Fischer, Frans Bruggen, Ulf Schirmer, Sir David Wilcocks, Pierre Cao, Martin Haselböck, Ian Page, Brian Kay and Nicolas Cleobury. Martene has toured the UK with Raymond Gubbay’s Strauss Gala and the Rambert Dance Company singing Howard Goodall’s Eternal Light.

She recently performed at the Sydney Festival, joining Oscar-nominated actor John Malkovich and Martin Haselböck in The Giacomo Variations, a “Chamber Opera Play” based on well-known lothario Giacomo Casanova and has now joined the cast on their other production; The Infernal Comedy. This production is touring countries including Austria, Germany, Russia, Cyprus, Georgia, Colombia, Peru and the USA during the 2011-2012 season.

Other recent performances include; Aminta (Il re Pastore) for the Classical Opera Company, Nannetta (Falstaff) for Mid Wales Opera and concerts with the Oxford Bach Choir, Waynflete Singers and Polski Chór Kameralny under Jan Lukaszewski.

Previous operatic roles include, Susanna (Le Nozze di Figaro); Zerlina (Don Giovanni); Despina (Cosi Fan Tutte); Ilia (Idomeneo); Cinna (Lucio Silla); Blanche ( Les dialogues des Carmelites), Helena in Britten's Midsummer night's dream, Sophie in Massenet's Werther , Glauce (Medea); Melia (Apollo and Hyacinthus); Mrs Gleaton in Floydd’s (Susannah) and Laurette in Bizet’s (Le Docteur Miracle).

She has recorded Ilia (Idomeneo) for ABC Classics, 1st Trio member (Trouble in Tahiti) for BR Klassik, Israel in Egypt for Eloquentia and The A-Z of Mozart Opera for Sony BMG.
